Chapter 1
- Spoiler:
- Chapter 1: [Pillar of Autumn]
The Autumn was being boarded from all directions by the Covenant. As the life pods went out, they came in. Marines were fleeing in all directions. Plasma shots filled the air. Surely there was no hope.
Michael Rayson lay on the floor, MA5K in hand. His right leg was bleeding and his index finger was missing its end as it was shot by a plasma bolt. He tried to stand up but his entire body felt paralyzed.
His vision was blurred and all he could hear was the footsteps of terrified Marines who had abandoned post and were running for a life pod. No one helped him up. He was dead for all they cared.
Then suddenly out of the mist of burning debris came Corporal Demso. Michael was in too much pain to realize his best friend was trying to lift him up.
''Mike wake up! Jesus Christ!'' Demso look around him in, oblivious of all the plasma bolts missing him by just inches. ''Won't somebody help me?'' No one heard him. Everyone was running. Demso mustered all his strength to lift up Michael. He couldn't manage it so he grabbed his arms and dragged him across the floor to the nearest life pod. Michael was trying to talk but only mumbles came out of his mouth. ''Dem? Get us outta here...'' He forced the words out. ''Don't worry I'm on it!''
Demso could hear the sound of life pods being jettisoned. He looked around outside the pod to check there was no one else they could collect. There was no one left except a Sangheili General marching towards them. ''F**k'' he whispered as he turned around back into the pod and slammed the door shut. Just as he closed the door a face popped onto the window from inside the Autumn. A marine in sheer panic was screaming his heart out. Demso couldn't hear him but he read the words on his lips. Help me, Help me ,Let me in.
Then it stopped. An energy sword pierced the Marines chest, leaving a burn mark on the opposite end of the door. They were lucky it didn't pierce through the door. Dem jumped back in fear and slammed the launch button.
As they drifted through space and headed towards the ring, Michael started to wake up. ''That was too close,'' he said, this time sitting up. Dem looked out the window. ''S**t Mike, bad news.'' Michael's eyes widened. ''What is it?''
''We've gone too far, past all the other pods.'' He looked out the window staring into the blackness of space. Demso leaned back. ''We're on our own Dude.'' He watched all the pods drift off towards the other side of the ring.
Michael sat up quickly. ''You okay Mike?'' asked Dem.
Michael ignored his question and grabbed the bag on the floor that Dem has dragged with him. ''F**k,'' Mike muttered.
''What?''
''We've only got this!'' Michael help up a knife from the bag.
They were alone. No weapons, no food. Just a single knife.
''Who the f**k carries a bag with just a knife it?'' Michael sat back again and sighed. They were about to land.
Chapter 2
- Spoiler:
- Chapter 2: Forerunner
Mike and Dem emerged from the pod. They looked around at the vast mountain ranges and endless fields. Both of them speechless. The air was misty and filled with smoke from the crash. The only sound was the crackle of the burning fire from the disheveled pod. Neither of them dared to speak. Demso crawled back into the pod and retrieved the bag that contained the knife. He slung it onto his back and held the knife firmly in his right hand. The sun was fading behind the planet which the installation orbited.
The light was dimming. The two Marines looked at each other and started to walk.
Michael's feet dragged across the ground, cobblestone moving under his feet. Pebbles, kicked across the field by his boots. As the night came closer their speed increased. Desperate to find shelter, they both looked around. Searching for a crevice in the mountain side. A small ambient noise caused Dem to suddenly turn around. ''What is it?'' asked Mike.
''I don't know.''
He turned back to face the fading sun and they continued walking. They both stayed quiet for the rest of the night. Their desperation increased. Dem's head filled was filled with thoughts as he wandered the baron ring with his companion. ''There,'' he said, pointing his knife towards a small crevice in the side of a mountain. They both eagerly ran towards the cave. They found a path up towards the cave. Michael clambered up over a few tall rocks, his leg was throbbing. He ignored the pain, they needed a place to stay for the night. Who knows what could be on this ring.
As Michael peered round the corner of the cave he was greeted with a rather horrifying sight. He jerked back in fear. ''What is it Mike?'' asked Dem from beneath the rocks. ''Come and see,'' he replied whilst creeping back around into the cave. ''You have to see this.''
Dem reached the top and slowly approached the entrance. His eyes refused to blink. ''Woah, what the...'' He stepped back.
Covenant dead. Bodies everywhere. The bodies were horrifically dismembered and appeared to mutated. ''I've never seen anything like this before. What happened Dem?'' Dem did not reply. He just climbed back down the rocks and continued to walk. ''Come down Mike. We need to keep going. It's definitely not safe in there.''
Michael jumped down. ''F**k... I forgot how bad my leg is.'' Dem chuckled. ''Come on dude we need to go.''
Neither of them wanted to know what happened to the Sangheili so they continued to wander. There was a strange feeling in the air. Like they were being followed.
They settled on the top of a hill, far away from the cave.
''Mike, I promise you we're getting out of here. Don't worry.'' Mike took off his helmet. ''Let's get some rest. We gotta find our squad tomorrow. Before something happens.'' Michael fell asleep with a smile on his face. We was happy Dem was here to help him. He was like a brother to him. Nothing could go wrong as long as Demso was with him.

Chapter 3: Encounter
The bright sunlight woke Michael and he jumped to his feet as soon remembered the situation he was in. He looked up at the sky to see if it was all a dream. The surface of the ring raised up high into the sky. Michael was not dreaming. He sighed in disappointment. He looked down but Dem wasn't there. Mike panicked for a few seconds then realised Dem was standing half way down the hill. ''Dude come back up!'' Dem didn't reply with words. He just raised his hand in the air and started to walk back. His feet dragged across the ground. ''You tired?'' Michael asked. ''Yeah sorta. We really need to get a move on. Grab the bag and I'll meet you down by that lake,'' he said, pointing towards a not so distance pool of water. Michael turned around and leaned over to grab the bag; flung it over his shoulder and start to walk towards Dem.
He made most of the journey head facing the floor but a sudden noise made him look up. A Covenant drop ship was hovering over the mountain in the distance. The noise of the Plasma boosters echoed over the mountains. ''S**t, quickly run to me!'' shouted Dem. Michael grabbed the knife from the bag and ran to Dem. They both held their backs towards the cliff side and waited for drop ship to pass. They were too late, it had seem them. The noise seemed to get closer and and then it stopped getting louder.
The sound of feet hitting the ground made Michael shiver. Nervousness filled both Michael and Dem. He gripped the knife so tight his hand ached.
Footsteps seemed to draw closer. ''Broshowshki!'' one of the creatures said. ''S**t it's and Elite!'' whispered Dem. The sound of an energy sword broke the silence and the Elite jumped down from the cliff, facing the opposite way of the two Marines. Mike didn't move for a second. Then he turned to look at Dem and nodded. Dem knew what he ment.
They had both spotted the Carbine in the Elites gun holster. The Elite started to walk forward. So did Mike. He held the knife up in front of his face, ready to strike at the Elite.
But it was too late. The Elite heard his footsteps on the cobblestone and started to turn. Realising this, Mark screamed and dived on the Elite. ''Aah! Aah!'' Die you f**king son of B**ch!'' he screamed as he continuously stabbed the Elite in the throat. Dem ran for the carbine once he knew the Elite was dead. Mike just stood there, '' Yeah! I just took you down Alien scumbag! Yeah!'' Dem ignored Michael's words and turned to face two grunts on the cliff side. He fired to shots from the carbine, killing both the grunts. ''Nice shot Dem.'' The two bodies hit floor with a great thud. Dem grabbed both plasma pistols the Grunts were holding. He threw one to Michael. ''Catch.'' Michael caught the gun and stuck it in the bag along with the knife. ''Let's get moving before anything else shows up,'' said Dem holding the carbine.
Dem and Mike walked cautiously through the valleys of the mountains. There was no sign of any more Covenant. ''I think they were only passing. That drop ship probably didn't intend to stop for us. Maybe they saw our squads drop pods, and were heading in that direction!'' Dem didn't comment on Mike's assumption. He just continued walking forward and looking around him. His mind was preoccupied. ''It's gonna start getting dark again Dem.'' Demso just nodded. He just tapped the carbine and continued to walk. ''Ever get the feeling your being watched?'' Dem asked. ''Not really, why?''
''Just watch your back, Mike.'' Mike turned around, shrugged his shoulders and carried on walking.
