1 Halo: Contention – 3 Machinima Trailers Tue Apr 10, 2012 1:52 am
SirMarty
I'm will be working on three machinima trailers that will depict the struggles the Covenant Empire and UNSC faced during the Human-Covenant War. These trailers will also focus on notable characters during the war who will be shown in combat in these trailers. The video's notable character, who will be the video's main character, will be narrating their respective video.
When Halo: Galaxy of Combat was being developed, I knew the game was taking place during the Human-Covenant War but I was confused of how it could tie into the Halo lore. The Halo series ties into mostly the Master Chief, but in Galaxy of Combat I would think the devs would have creative writers who could make it work and not conflict with the canon.
I ask you Sovereign Game Studios if these trailers could be made canon. I'm not sure if we'll be seeing a Campaign in Halo: Contention, but we know this won't be an MMO so it can still be applied. MMO or not, it would be nice if these trailers could have ties that precede the game's Campaign or just the engine.
These trailers I will be directing will raise even more awareness to the massive multiplayer-based game, and possibly, in an event that we get the attention of Microsoft or 343i, this game could truly be the MMO everyone was expecting—that is, if they want to publish this game which they should (who would say no to money?).
These machinima trailers will use creative choreography, a nice story (with the help of the devs?), amazing special effects(?), great acting, awesome action, and will engage the audience in a way that will want them to come join our community.
Engine: Possibly Halo: Reach
Release Date: TBA (>2012)
Titles: "Ambushed", "Hope", "Counterattack"
Publisher: Sovereign Game Studios
Director: HomicidalWhales
Game: Halo: Contention

- Spoiler:
- Halo: Contention – "Ambushed" Machinima Trailer
Ambushed is the first trailer directed by HomicidalWhales (my Director persona) and published by Sovereign Game Studios for the upcoming video game, Halo: Contention.
This trailer will depict the Covenant Empire's assault of Sargasso. While the Covenant had sent most of its army to distract the UNSC by sending a strike force to Endymion (Skirmish at Endymion), that was merely a distraction for the Covenant's true goal: Sacking of Sargasso, which takes place prior to the game's start.
A Sangheili Field Marshall and his Sangheili Officer escort make their way up towards a UNSC building they are infiltrating where they're met by several members of the UNSC Military Police. Drawing his Energy Sword, the Sangheili Field Marshall kills the Military Police soldiers with a series of quick slashes and his use of the Armor Lock. Above the main entryway, a crouched Sangheili Ranger takes its signal from the Field Marshall, and infiltrates an upper level of the UNSC building using its jetpack. The Ranger proceeds to kill several more guards with its gun, before checking the holographic display from the room's holotable, monitoring the process of an incoming shuttle. Walking casually into the building, the Field Marshall and the Officer are intercepted by over a dozen Spartans, including a Spartan-II Lieutenant Commander, who surround the pair with their guns drawn. As if on cue, the shuttle violently crashes through the building's entrance, smashing through the stone columns before finally coming to rest a short distance behind the Field Marshall. The shuttle's door opens, revealing a Sangheili surrounded in darkness who proceeds to ignite an Energy Sword; taking a few steps forward, the darkness that surrounds him is illuminated by the activation of over twenty Energy Swords of blue plasma.
These Sangheili Zealots, led by a Sangheili General, pour from the shuttle, charging the Spartans in a battle that quickly overtakes the building's entrance hall. A series of Spartans and Elites fall in battle, as the Officer fires at Spartans from the Field Marshall's side before taking cover behind a still-standing pillar. The Elite Ranger moves through the building with her jetpack, mowing down the building's guards attempting to assist the besieged Spartans, with a Fuel Rod Gun and a Plasma Rifle. The Field Marshall cuts down numerous Spartans with his Energy Sword, striking at others with streams of his Armor Lock, and simply lifting and throwing another Spartan with his bare hand. The Spartan-II Lieutenant Commander, who had fought with the Field Marshall prior to the shuttle crash, slams the Elite Officer into a downed column with his Armor Lock before grabbing an Energy Sword on the ground to attack the Field Marshall directly.
The two clash in a duel through the chaotic battle still being waged around them. When the Lieutenant Commander crouches to avoid a deadly high swing, the Field Marshall kicks him several feet back through the air; the Lieutenant Commander takes the ever-so-brief intermission from their duel to strike down two nearby Sangheili warriors. The Field Marshall throws his Energy Sword, which the Spartan-II leaps over, only to be struck by a powerful push from the Field Marshall's Armor Lock that throws him through a piece of the collapsed rubble. The Field Marshall summons his airborne Energy Sword back to his hand while leaping over the debris, attempting to impale the Spartan-II as he lies on the ground. The Spartan, however, recovers quickly from the impact and manages to avoid the Elite's lethal blow by jumping clear. He strikes back at the Field Marshall with a vicious series of fast-paced strikes, stunning the Elite with an elbow to the face. When his next swing misses and he spins to gather momentum for another strike, the Field Marshall rushes in and impales the Spartan-II through the torso.
Defeated, the Spartan-II falls to his knees as the Field Marshall turns away, deactivating his Energy Sword. In his final moments, the Spartan-II stares out at the burning district as Covenant Banshees fly overhead, Elite Minors march up the building steps, and Covenant battleships loom in the distant sky. He pitches forward onto the ground as the Banshees unleash a barrage of plasma cannon fire on the building and the surrounding district, pillars of thick smoke rising into the air. The Field Marshall walks out of the building as spires and statues collapse behind him, switching out his Energy Sword for his Plasma Rifle as the building is engulfed in flames.

- Halo: Contention – "Hope" Machinima Trailer
Hope is the second trailer directed by HomicidalWhales (my Director persona) and published by Sovereign Game Studios for the upcoming video game, Halo: Contention.
This trailer will depict the UNSC's struggle to retake New Harmony from the forces of the Covenant Empire during the Second Battle of New Harmony, taking place several years before the beginning of the game and at a time prior to the first trailer. The video is narrated by the ODST John Burns.
An ODST recounts the peaceful history of the planet New Harmony, and what it had meant to the UNSC. But because of this, the world became a target of the Covenant Empire, and in a devastating attack lead by a Sangheili Field Marshall (the one seen in the last trailer), the Covenant seemed to claim New Harmony for their own. However, several UNSC troopers from Contention Squad (named after the game ) are arming themselves in order to strike back at the Covenant presence. Though they're outnumbered, the troopers use the element of surprise to launch an attack from above by using the hilly terrain, raining down fire from blasters and missile launchers, with the unnamed soldier leading the assault. The surprise attack deals a significant blow to the Covenant, catching them off-guard and allowing for the destruction of several Elite Minors and even SpecOps Elites caught by fire from assault riles and grenades.
The Covenant fight back, killing several troopers with a combination of Energy Sword attacks and Armor Lock abilities. When the Field Marshall enters the fray, pulling a trooper to him only to cut him down, the unnamed soldier leading the attack charges the Field Marshall alone. The trooper fires three shots from his rocket launcher at the Elite, who deflects the first two, but he is hit by the third in the chest, wounding him. Ramming two Sangheili warriors bodily, the trooper attempts to do the same to the Field Marshall but gets caught in a stream of his Armor Lock. Clearly in pain, the trooper nonetheless draws a knife and struggles to finish his attack on the Sangheili commander but is hurled backward and knocked unconscious. As he's coming to, the trooper is trapped to meet his death by a waiting Elite swordsman, as numerous other UNSC troops meet the same fate all around him. But just as the Elite moves to inflict the killing stroke, Spartan-II Ashley Johnson rescues the soldier and moves to engage the Elites herself, wielding a double-bladed Energy Sword. As she downs the Elites who were only seconds earlier about to kill the trooper, the trooper is able to make it back to his feet, catching a rifle tossed from a nearby comrade before rejoining the battle. Johnson carves a swathe through the Elite forces, felling Sangheili swordsmen and one of their Minors before finally clashing with the Field Marshall himself.
The two sword-wielders battle with a combination of Energy Sword swings and blows from their fists and feet. The Field Marshall uses his overbearing strength to his advantage, forcing Johnson to mount a strained defense from her knees; she reaches out and collapses the trunk of a nearby tree, bringing it down right in the middle of their fight and separating the combatants. With the playing field leveled again, Johnson leaps onto the fallen tree where she continues her battle with the Elite until being thrown into another tree. The Elite dives to end the battle and her life, but Johnson manages to dodge with a last-second jump, though the Elite is able to slash through her Energy Sword and go for a killing thrust. Johnson catches the Elite's blade, and holds him at bay long enough for the Republic trooper whose life she had saved to return the favor by ramming and tackling the Elite while he is distracted. As the two grapple, the trooper reveals an armed grenade in his hand, detonating it mere inches from their faces. Both are thrown backward by the explosion, though the Elite climbs to his feet first, his face and armor burned and scored. Before he can retaliate, Johnson uses her Armor Lock to slam the Elite into a cliff face, driving him deeper with a subsequent blast.
The Republic trooper who attacked the Elite with the grenade wakes up as the battle around him comes to a close, his helmet suffering both burns, marks and scratches while his armor shows blackened scars from the blast. As he looks over the battlefield and the dead UNSC soldiers, the trooper is joined by Johnson and fires a single flare into the sky above the forest. It is accompanied by several others, until all across the planet flares can be seen, while at the same time, the UNSC Navy arrives in orbit above the planet.
Halo: Contention Trailer #3:
- Spoiler:
- Halo: Contention – "Counterattack" Machinima Trailer
Counterattack is the third trailer directed by HomicidalWhales (my Director persona) and published by Sovereign Game Studios for the upcoming video game, Halo: Contention.
This trailer will depict the Covenant's effort to retake Heian, and the trailer will focus on the Sangheili Field Marshall and his struggles against UNSC forces, as seen in the previous two trailers.
In a UNSC base located on Heian, two Spartans, Ashley Johnson and her partner Richard Ambrose, along with John Burns and another ODST, are escorting a Military Police trooper, a UNSC soldier they have captured, who had been smuggling Covenant artifacts out of Heian. Suddenly, after both Spartans look outside, a fleet of Covenant capital ships and fighters come out of slipspace and begin to attack the base. Ashley's partner immediately recognizes it as a counterattack from the Covenant and expresses the need to warn the UNSC. Because the base does not have any ship capable of outrunning the Covenant, the Military Police soldier suggests using his ship which supposedly can outrun the enemy fleet.
As the Spartans clear the hangar area of Sangheili soldiers, the Military Police soldier aids ODST John Burns, in fighting off an attack from a Sangheili boarding party. A Phantom lands in the hangar, and two Elites emerge. ODST Burns and the MP board the soldier's ship and prep it for launch, while both Spartans attempt to hold off the Field Marshall and the Fleet Master Zealot.
Richard Ambrose instructs Ashley Johnson to escape in the ship and returns to face the two Elites. His partner throws her double-bladed Energy Sword to her partner and leaves on the ship. Burns and Johnson sit and hold on as the MP pilots the craft through the battle going on in the sky, evading Covenant Banshees. The male Spartan skillfully duels both Elites, severely wounding the Zealot Fleet Master.
The Field Marshall takes his wounded partner's Energy Sword along with his own and re-engages the Spartan. They fight each other blow for blow; however, the Field Marshall eventually gains the upper hand, killing Spartan Ambrose.
With the duel over, the Field Marshall approaches his partner, telling him that he failed because the MP's ship escaped, and word will go to the UNSC that the Covenant have gained control of the planet. After welcoming him back to Heian, the Field Marshall then turns on the Zealot and kills him using his own Energy Sword.
- Note: Many of the characters, events and trailers are still in a process of revision, editing and naming.
